ActiveRain | Is it worth the time?

For those of us Realtors that have been around pre-2006 and the real estate social media craze that followed, ActiveRain Real Estate Network will be a familiar website.

The content, created by Realtors for the general public stood out from all the rest in its early days. Another aspect of this portal was the “villagers helping villagers” concept- Realtors helping each other navigate the internet and online marketing. There were other functions of course.

I guess now, it could be considered real estates sister of the Ford’s Model T online. Until recently one would consider ActiveRain outdated and “long in the tooth”.

However.. did you know  that ActiveRain, and in particular The ActiveRain Blog  boasts over 3 million blog posts. This leverage can help with gaining visibility online (aka SEO).

Over the years, this website has had many owners including its original owners and entrepreneurs Bob Steward and Jonathan Washburn. It was sold to Market Leader, absorbed into Trulia and most recently that other company that starts with a “Z”.

Step in Ben Kinney in June of this year. Mr. Kinney’s holdings include Real Launch, Brivity, Blossor, Big Fresh and Tech Help.

This young real estate geek understands the real estate industry and how it must adjust to today’s market environment. He understands the value of the Local experience for buyers.

While it “appears” ActiveRain and Mr. Kinney has been quietly sitting on the sidelines I can only imagine this is not the case. My eyes are on the future activity and offerings at ActiveRain.

Case in point,  enter WikiRealty an online site very similar to ActiveRain, a copycat site so to speak. I have always found mimicking a site or copying its business strategies are the greatest compliment and proves a point that ActiveRain is well worth incorporating into your real estate online marketing.
